alchemy of plants, soil and rocks

I have learned that there is a sort of magic that belongs to the natural world, it embraces all beings, breathing and inert. There is magic in the connections we find in the natural world, we were created from the same stars, breathed the same air, drank the same water since the beginning.

I am in constant awe of the similarities I find in the world that surrounds us and being a human being. Tree roots stretching across soil like veins in the arm, ripples in sand like stretch marks lacing on hips, cracked clay like the ridges of my textured skin, the landscapes in my eyes, the constellations along my nose. My art practiced has morphed its way into being rooted in understanding this magic and connection.

Over the years I have become a collector of hobbies, my natural curiosity has led me down the road that seeks knowledge and to share knowledge. The knowledge lays in the process; this is where I have learned of plants + their properties, soils + their stories, rocks + their familiarity. There is incredible alchemy in this process all in relation with land + water, sunlight + seeds, family + friends.

my practice has found itself being related to the exploration of these connections and relations in all the ways my hands and spirit feel called to do. I am continuously learning; this is the art of exploring humanness.

the humble wolf is a passion project that has morphed with my art making practice. the goal is to bring the natural world into the studios of artists all over whether it be offerings from my studio and homeland or offerings created with the land you are currently residing in. this could be handmade watercolour paints, crayons, pastels, oil pastels, hand-dyed items, with the possibility of more as I continue to learn new crafts.

The notions of my homeplace, family, and my family’s heritage with a core concept of “all my relations” are the driving forces in my work. I focus on having a slow and methodical approach to the process as a means of being mindful and having a strong intent. Through the use of natural materials such as rocks, soil and plants from my homeplace I am rediscovering and strengthening my connections to ancestors and land.
